Description of Role: 

McKinleyville Parks & Recreation is seeking a dynamic, energetic, highly motivated Recreation Intern who has organizational skills and is able to work in a customer service oriented environment.  The position will work closely with community groups and volunteers, coordinate a variety of projects, and work some evenings and weekends.

 

Under the direction of Parks and Recreation staff, this position will help plan, manage, and evaluate afterschool programs, youth and adult sports, special events, and other specialized recreation programs offered by the Department.  The Recreation Intern will gain a variety of experiences dealing with the daily operations of a Community Recreation and Park District.  The Intern will participate in Budgeting Procedures, Promotions and Marketing, Grant Writing, and a variety of other operations within the District. 

 

Hours: 

This position is flexible, working 30 to 40 hours per week until internship is completed. 

           

Salary: 

Volunteer position.  Some compensation (up to 70% of working hours) is possible.

           

Qualifications: 

    Majority of course work completed towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation.

    Ability to obtain current fingerprint identification and negative criminal history results from the Department of Justice upon    employment.

    Ability to obtain first aid/CPR certification (provided for by District, if necessary).
