BACKGROUND:  

We have been notified there is a vacancy on the LAFCO board for the Public Member position.  This is a four-year term starting on July 1, 2008.  The LAFCO purpose is as follows:

1. Encourage the orderly growth of local agencies
2. Preserve agricultural land resources
3. Discourage urban sprawl
4. Assure efficient local government services

Nomination deadline is April 28, 2008.

Qualifications:  must be a resident of Humboldt County.  He/she cannot be a current board member, officer, or employee of Humboldt County, or any local agency located in Humboldt County.

Appointment:  Humboldt LAFCO makes the appointment of the Public Member

We must request and file a nomination form is we are interested in nominating someone for consideration.  The Commission or a subcommittee will interview the prospective candidates in May and June.

RECOMMENDATIONS:  Consider nominating a member of the public at large to submit to the LAFCO Commission.
