Kids Camp Assistant Director

Job Title: Program Coordinator

General Description of Role:  Responsible for assisting in the overall planning and implementation of a traditional summer day camp for children 6-12 years old.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to activity planning, staff and participant supervision, behavior management and discipline, providing support to the Kids Camp Director as needed, staff evaluation and other duties as assigned.

Pre-Camp work assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  assist with planning and implementing staff training and other duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator or the Kids Camp Director.

Camp work assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to:  supervision of camp activities (in absence of supervisor), planning and implementation of weekly activities, implementation of program discipline policy including successful behavior modification activities, assist in coordination of field trips/presentations, indirect supervision of staff and distribution of work assignments, direct supervision of program participants, enforcement of all policy and procedure as contained in program handbooks, general facility maintenance, and other duties as required or assigned by the Recreation Coordinator and Kids Camp Director.

Post-Camp work assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  compiling program statistics and incident reports, and completing staff evaluations.

Hours:  Full-time, Monday-Friday starting June 18 and continuing through August 17

Pre-program planning hours begin in mid-May.  Camp training in early June.

Wage:  $12.13/hour


- Current first aid/CPR certification (upon employment).

- Current negative TB test (upon employment).

- Ability to obtain current fingerprint identification (BID 7) upon employment.

- Knowledge, training, and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:  child care, social work, child psychology, counseling.

-  Minimum one year of experience working with children in the role of youth development

-  Minimum six months’ supervisory experience in youth programming, including program planning and staff supervision.

Program Coordinator Job Description


Youth Basketball Sports Official (Referee)
General Description of Role: Sports Officials (referees) are expected to have a good knowledge of basketball rules and regulations, be able to use good judgment in making calls and decisions on the court and be available to work games on Saturdays.  Some training will be provided. 
Wage: Pay starts at $11.58 per hour
Hours: Games are held on Saturdays beginning January 13th with the season running through March 10th, 2018.


Playgroup Leader

General Description of Role:  We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic individual who would be responsible for the facilitation of a Playgroup program for children ages 0-5 and their parents and families.

Playgroup leader is responsible for setting up playgroup equipment; ensuring all sign-in and donation materials are available and that participants are signing in each day; Ensuring Participants follow all program rules; Ensuring program has all necessary supplies and equipment; Leading art activities; coordinating special events/guest speakers; Leading circle time; assisting with reporting requirements of program sponsor, Humboldt First 5; and other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor

Hours:  5-7 hours per week, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between 8:30am-1:00pm

Wage:  $11.58/hour or DOE


  • A love of small children and families
  • Experience coordinating activities for children 0-5 years old.
  • Current first aid/CPR certification (within six months of employment).
  • Current negative TB test (upon employment).
  • Ability to obtain current fingerprint identification (BID 7) upon employment.
  • Have never been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor related to abuse, neglect or exploitation of children or adults.

Futsal Referee
Description of Role:  Officiate futsal games for McKinleyville Parks & Recreation's Coed Adult Futsal League on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm-9:00pm at the McKinleyville Activity Center.
Wage: $15.00 per game
  • Strong knowledge of the rules of the sport of Futsal.
  • Abiltiy to run and move quickly to keep up with fast-paced play.
  • Confidence to officiate an adult sport.

Thank you for your interest in offering a leisure service program to our community.  We appreciate your desire to share your special skills and talents with the members of our community.

Our Leisure Service Programs reflect a wide variety of interests and activities, you can check out the Leisure Class Instructor Program brochure for more information.  Programs can be offered for all ages of the population, including toddlers, children, teens, young adults, adults, and seniors.  We are typically seeking the following programs... arts, crafts, cooking, dog obedience, dancing, martial arts, yoga, music and more.  If you have an idea but aren’t sure we’ll be able to use it, CALL us and ask!  We are more than interested in any and all program ideas.

So, you have a program idea and want to turn in a proposal?  What do you do?  It’s easy!  Simply complete the Leisure Services Program Proposal Application and return it to our office located at 1656 Sutter Road in McKinleyville.  A Leisure Services Program Proposal Application must be completed for each proposed program.
